Today was James's SECOND fourth of July! We had a wonderful time all day long, starting with a visit from Caitlin (Eliot's cousin from Baltimore) and her friend Ashley. They stopped in to visit us while on a long car trip, and we were so happy to have them! We grilled some chicken, had corn on the cob and potato salad, and dined al fresco in the backyard. James even had some corn (off the cob) and a few very long naps (he's going through a growth spurt AND teething!).
Then this afternoon, we went to our local park 4th of July festival here in Springfield called Lights of Liberty. The first musician to play was Brooks Robertson, a guy Eliot knew from his performance seven years ago on A Prarie Home Companion with Garrison Keillor. Brooks is an amazing guitarist from right here in Eugene. He played a lovely set while we fed James a snack and listened while sitting on a blanket on the lawn. Then we went over to meet him, and it was so fun to watch the guys meet each other again after such a long time!
After that, we decided to take James home for dinner and a bath, then we headed back to hear the band Sha Na Na play some classic rock n' roll. It was really quite fun... ELiot had a beer from the Ninkasi stand, and I danced the twist with James. :-) James stayed up the WHOLE time, even though he was tired (I tell you, that kid sleeps nowhere but his crib!), and we stayed to watch the fireworks show over the river (we were a bit behind a tree, but it was still wonderful.
So there you have it! A very happy 4th of July. Here are some pics, all lumped together since I decided to post them the easy way this time. The picture of Eliot with another guy is Brooks Robertson.
Also, here is a short video of our family enjoying the music. :-)
