I am 23 weeks as of yesterday!! Apparently our little boy can dance with me now! How appropriate then that we went to the opera The Magic Flute on Friday... and every time the drums sounded (for lightening) he would kick me! I think he hears sounds a lot more than he did before. :-)
Here is what is happening this week:
Turn on the radio and sway to the music. With his sense of movement well developed by now, your baby can feel you dance. And now that he's more than 11 inches long and weighs just over a pound (about as much as a large mango), you may be able to see him squirm underneath your clothes. Blood vessels in his lungs are developing to prepare for breathing, and the sounds that your baby's increasingly keen ears pick up are preparing him for entry into the outside world. Loud noises that become familiar now — such as your dog barking or the roar of the vacuum cleaner — probably won't faze him when he hears them outside the womb.
I am also starting to think about childproofing the house... and my main concern right now is letting the cat have access to the bathroom (toiled trained) without risking our kiddo falling in the toilet or the tub we keep filled with an inch of water (to prevent the cat from having accidents, although he is doing REALLY well these days in that arena). My latest idea is to put a safety gate with a swing gate on the outside frame of the door so that people can use the bathroom and the cat can jump over it (I think he can) but the kiddo can't go in. If only these gates weren't $60... why is baby stuff so darn expensive??
At least it will be awhile before our little one is mobile so we can save for it! :-)
